Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Questions about Registration:
Q: What US exchange rate should I use to pay for the conference?
Q: Does my group qualify for a group rate?
A: No refunds will be given after June 1. If we are notified of your cancellation before June 1, you will be refunded the amount paid less a $50 non-refundable administration fee.
A: Write! Canada is designed so that registrants will obtain the most benefit from attending the entire conference over three days. The continuing classes run for six segments, and you will be confused if you only attend some of the sessions. We do not offer partial registration, but we occasionally make exceptions for Write! Canada alumni or experienced writers who simply can't get away from work for the entire conference. They must be pre-approved by the registrar. Send an explanatory note to the
registrar. Normally, if you are unable to attend the full conference, you are better to instead consider attending a future one-day conference. And if you aren't a member of
The Word Guild, do join in order to take advantage of the learning opportunities!
A: Through the dedication of many volunteers, Write! Canada keeps its registration rate as low as possible to allow as many people as possible to attend. Write! Canada is much less expensive than many of the equivalent conferences in the US.
Before contacting us to request a bursary, we suggest that you speak with your pastor or someone else in leadership and ask if your church would be able to give you financial assistance to attend the conference. This would be a good way for your church to help you develop your talent for writing, which then would allow greater opportunity for you to minister to others, both in your local church and beyond.
Bursaries may be available from The Word Guild for those who demonstrate financial need and a serious commitment to writing. A limited number of bursaries is available. Apply as soon as possible if you wish to be considered. See Bursaries for further information.
Q: Is there a group rate?
A: The group rate is available to missions, Christian publications and not-for-profit organizations that are paying to send three or more members of their staff for professional development. It is not available to writers' groups, church groups or groups of friends.

Questions about Classes and Workshops:
A: Choosing classes is a completely individual decision; only you know what type of writing you are most interested in, what writing experience you have had, etc. The continuing class is the most important choice because it provides six hours of in-depth instruction. The workshops in that track may or may not complement the continuing class topic. You can mix and match workshops to learn about a variety of topics. Before you choose, carefully study the course descriptions and faculty biographies. See
How to Register under the Register tab for further tips.
A: We have posted all the information we have about the classes. If you have read through the entire Web site and still have questions, or if you are overwhelmed by making a decision about which classes to choose, you may email Bonnie the
registrar. If necessary, you may telephone Bonnie at 905-936-2430 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Ontario time. Absolutely no calls outside those hours or on Sundays, please.
A: Since classrooms are assigned and handouts prepared based on the choices you make on the registration form, organizers hope that most people will not switch classes. However, if you decide that you have made the wrong choice, you are permitted to attend a different class. It will help us if you notify the registrar in advance about your change of plan.
Email the registrar.
Questions about Accommodation:
A: Accommodation at the conference centre on Wednesday night is only available for conference staff and faculty, and for volunteers who have arranged in advance to arrive early to help with set-up. For others, please check out our off-site accommodation listing. Members of The Word Guild may inquire if any fellow members living in the area could offer billeting.
A: Unfortunately, because our space is limited, we cannot offer rooms or meals to guests who are not registered for the conference. The only exception is for health care aides. We suggest that you check out our off-site accommodation listing.
A: Unfortunately, this is not possible because the Guelph Bible Conference Centre staff needs to prepare for another group arriving on Sunday.
A: People who are coming alone will be assigned a roommate of the same sex. Organizers try to assign people in similar age ranges. Often, people make new friends this way.
A: Since on-site accommodation is so limited, we can't offer single rooms to registrants. If you wish to have your own private room, consider booking off-site accommodations.
A: Yes, several hotels are within a 5- or 10-minute drive of the conference centre. If you wish to stay off-site, you are responsible for making your own reservations and transportation arrangements. Please check our
Accommodations section.
Questions about the Conference Centre:

A: We have arranged a special rate with Red Car shuttle service for Write! Canada participants travelling from either the Toronto or Hamilton airports. See
Transportation information in the Location section of Web site.
A: Virtually all of the grounds are accessible, including the main building, which houses the dining room, lounge, bookstore, inn and classrooms, and the nearby Ministry Building and ground floor of the Lodge (historic house). Bedrooms in the inn, and the lower level classrooms, are accessible through a lift, for which you pay a refundable deposit of $15 to obtain a key upon arrival. Choose Accommodation Category D or G for easier accessibility. Three wheelchair-accessible rooms are available.
A: The conference kitchen provides nutritious meals but is not equipped to handle special menu requests. If you follow a special diet, organizers suggest that you choose what you are able to eat from the food provided and then supplement that with food brought with you. There is a small amount of storage available in the refrigerator in the lounge. We encourage everyone to eat in the dining room to enjoy the fellowship and interaction, and to hear the special features taking place at the microphone. However, in exceptional cases where you have severe dietary restrictions, please contact the
