Informal Networking
Informal Networking Throughout the Conference
An atmosphere of mutual respect
Write! Canada is designed to be a warm and supportive environment where participants from many backgrounds and experiences are united in their common love of writing, and in their wish to use their writing to honour God. Whether in the classroom or in informal conversation, we want to focus on subjects that foster our pursuit of excellence in writing.
This is not the place to promote views on theological, political, social or ethical issues or to criticize others' views. Nor is it the place to question or comment on others' denominational affiliation or church attendance. Our goals are to highlight what we have in common and nurture, support and encourage one another.
Over the years, our conference has always been hallmarked by participants' keen desire to learn from our guest experts in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Our faculty members have agreed to share their knowledge and expertise, but please be sensitive to the fact that some may not share your belief system. Members of our sponsoring organization, The Word Guild, are asked to affirm The Apostles' Creed, but there is no similar requirement for those attending or teaching at the conference.
Coffee Breaks
Coffee and tea are provided as part of your registration package. At certain times you can buy pop, ice cream, candy and other treats, at the conference centre snack bar in the lounge.
Please Be Courteous and Thoughtful
When faculty are in the lounge, please ask if you may talk with them before launching into your pitch. And please do not pursue them into the washroom to make a pitch. (It has happened.) You can make a positive impression by offering help, when it seems to be needed. For example, you can volunteer in advance to act as the classroom assistant during the faculty member's continuing class or workshop; bring him or her a cold drink during your appointment; etc.
