Create a Presentation Folder of Work Samples
Book authors get a chance to display their work through selling books on consignment. If you are primarily an article writer or have published some individual poems, here’s an opportunity for you to display your published work too.
If you have had short work published (articles, stories, poems, etc.), you might want to create a presentation folder to leave on our marketing table in the bookstore area so others can read your work. Any presentation folder will do, but we recommend the ACCO Swing-Ring Presentation Binder, which allows you to add and subtract pages (available at Staples and similar office supply stores).
Create a cover page with your name, contact info and perhaps a photo, and insert it into the clear plastic front. Alternatively, if you have designed a one-sheet, you may use that as your cover page.
If you have had something published in a magazine, insert the front cover of the magazine and your tear sheets (i.e., the actual pages torn from the publication). For a newspaper, clip out the masthead on page one showing the newspaper's name and date, and then insert your item.
If you don't have tear sheets, use good quality photocopies. If you already have compiled a large binder containing a portfolio of all your published work, you could bring that to the conference in case you want to show it to someone.
However, for the marketing table we recommend a small presentation folder with perhaps 8 to 10 short pieces.
